My Top 10 Essential Make-Up Items

When I was younger I was never interested in make-up, I didn't feel the need to wear it and it wasn't really my thing. As a 19, nearly 20 year old girl, I felt so out of place that I couldn't join in girly chats about which is the best highlighter to make you glow or how to get your eyebrows on point, but I came to terms with the fact that I don't need to and that's not why I should be interested in it.

Recently, I have been trying to figure it all out, from colour correcting to contouring. I wanted to learn about make-up for the fact that my skin had been getting worse and my confidence had plummeted to an all time low. I learnt how to do my make-up to help me and it shouldn't have been for any other reason.

My make-up routine changes on a weekly basis and for different occasions. This is my go to and simple everyday look.

10 Essential Items
I start with my Revlon PhotoReady perfecting primer. I always use a primer because I hate the feeling of foundation sinking into my skin- it's a must have for me. I love this primer as it evens out my skin tone and texture which creates a smooth and even base for my foundation.

If I find that I have some redness or my scars seem more red than usual, I use my NYX Full Coverage Concealer in Green (CJ12). It helps hide any redness perfectly when I need that little bit of extra coverage that my foundation may not do. There are other shades to this concealer to combat different problem areas, like dark circles. Look into the different colours to see which can help with your skin type. The only problem I find is that it can sometimes cake up after a while but nothing to excessive. There is a liquid concealer that I want to try, to see if they work as well, as I do prefer liquids over creams because they tend to feel lighter.

After allowing my primer to set I apply my Revlon ColourStay (combination/oily) foundation with a beauty blender. I like this foundation because I want a light feel, nothing too heavy on my face and even though it is quite a thin consistency, it has a very medium coverage which helps when covering some of my acne scars.

I then apply my Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer in the shade light. I apply this in a triangle shape under my eye, which lifts and brightens the area to give you a more awake look. This is my absolute must have concealer, I use it all the time whether it's an everyday look or for going out.

I set my make-up with the NYX HD Studio Finishing Powder. I did start by using pressed powders, but I felt the were too heavy and cakey on my face. I then opted for a loose powder and I prefer the light feel and texture it has on my face.

I have naturally think eyebrows so I found that I don't need to draw them on but only fill them in. For this I use the Maybelline Master Brow Perfect Palette. I only use the powder instead of the cream and I also use the highlighting powder to shape underneath my brow. It's simple, effective and stays put so I can't complain.

If I want some extra colour and a little glow then I use my Rosie for Autograph Insta-Glow Bronze in Summer Solstice. It is a bronzing and highlighting duo that gives of a nice natural glow for an everyday look.

My favourite mascara that I have used has to be my L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes. I don't like clumpy eyelashes, I prefer them to just be elongated which this definitely does. It is also waterproof which I prefer because I seem to find that ones that aren't, smudge more.

My everyday go to lipstick is my Mac Matte 'Honey Love' which is just a lovely neutral colour and nothing too bold. Although it is matte I don't find that it dries my lips out which is always a bonus but I do always apply a lip balm before any lipstick.

Finally, I use my L'Oreal Infallible Fixing Mist which is perfect to set all my make-up in place so it doesn't fade or move.

My make-up bag is from www.savethepeople.co.uk and it is my absolute favourite. You can use code 'SOPHIE15' at checkout for 15% off your purchase!
